blistex lip balm packaging
For my primary packaging, I chose to make a sticker wrapper for a regular sized lip balm tube. The secondary packaging is a cardboard triangular box with the same design as the sticker. I wanted to use a box with a shape we do not normally see on the shelves.
I also wanted to eliminate plastic as much as I could. Ideally, the packaging would be made with all sustainable materials. With a product that radiates an earthy and natural feeling, packaging that stays outside of a landfill is essential.
Blistex’s products feel very medicinal and I wanted to steer away from that aesthetic.
what?
In my advanced studio graphic design course, we were challenged with taking an existing Blistex product line and redesign it. I chose the hemp line.
My goal with redesigning Blistex’s hemp line was to make it appear more organic and eco-friendly. I chose to add a cardboard texture as the background to give the recyclable look. I thought that the target audience for this line of products would appreciate simplistic design over something extravagant and bold.
why?
how?
I used Adobe Illustrator to complete this project.
I chose to take my own product shots instead of finding a PSD mockup online because I wanted to add natural lighting and a neutral background.
