the haunting of north hall

why?

In my Digital Imaging course, I was tasked with creating a poster that embodied a Slippery Rock University theme while drawing inspiration from a specific art style. I am thrilled to share that my work was selected to be displayed in the communication department hallway.

what?

For my poster, I was drawn to the “See America” promotional materials by the United States Travel Bureau. I like the simplistic, yet detailed approach to the landmarks. I added a Slippery Rock University twist to the piece by including the legend of Emma Guffey Miller. This SRU alum was said to have loved the campus so much that she “was never going to leave.” Many students throughout the years have claimed to be affected by her presence in the North Hall dorm building, where it is rumored she lives.

how?

I created every detail of this project in Adobe Illustrator. I captured a reference photo of the building and built the elements using the pen tool and shape builder tool. For the ghost, I utilized the gradient mesh tool and experimented with opacity levels.
